Description

Delicious Turtle Bars featuring a rich buttery crust, a gooey caramel-pecan layer, and a smooth melted chocolate topping. Perfectly balanced for a sweet treat that combines crunchy, chewy, and creamy textures in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened

Turtle Layer

  • â…” cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup pecan halves

Chocolate Topping

  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bars.
  2. Make the Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and softened butter. Beat at medium speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture forms fine crumbs. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 13×9-inch baking pan to form the crust.
  3. Prepare the Turtle Layer: Place ⅔ cup butter and ½ cup brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture bubbles and let it cook for another 30-60 seconds to thicken slightly. Remove from heat once done.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Evenly spread 1 cup of pecan halves over the crust in the baking pan. Pour the hot butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the pecans, ensuring full coverage.
  5. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the surface is bubbly and the layers are set.
  6. Add the Chocolate Topping: Remove the bars from the oven and immediately sprinkle 1 cup of milk chocolate chips over the hot surface. Allow the chocolate chips to melt for 2-3 minutes, then gently swirl them with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  7. Cool: Let the bars cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes to set. Once cooled, slice into 48 pieces and serve.

Notes

  • For easier slicing, chill the bars in the refrigerator for an additional 15 minutes after cooling.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds if desired.
  • Milk chocolate chips can be replaced with dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips for a different flavor profile.
  • Make sure to stir the butter and brown sugar mixture constantly to prevent burning.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice bars cleanly without crumbling.
