Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- Food coloring (red, green, or your choice)
- Holiday sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add egg, vanilla, and sour cream; mix until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing evenly.
- Flatten each dough ball gently with your hand or the bottom of a glass.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are just set and centers stay soft.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and food coloring until smooth and spreadable.
- Frost cooled cookies and decorate with holiday sprinkles.
Notes
- Do not overbake; centers should stay soft and cake-like.
- Chill dough for 30 minutes if you want less spreading.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
