Description

Soft Frosted Christmas Cookies are fluffy, cake-like sugar cookies topped with sweet, creamy frosting and colorful sprinkles. They’re a nostalgic holiday treat perfect for cookie exchanges, gifting, or leaving out for Santa on Christmas Eve.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • Food coloring (red, green, or your choice)
  • Holiday sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, vanilla, and sour cream; mix until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing evenly.
  7. Flatten each dough ball gently with your hand or the bottom of a glass.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are just set and centers stay soft.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and food coloring until smooth and spreadable.
  11. Frost cooled cookies and decorate with holiday sprinkles.

  • Do not overbake; centers should stay soft and cake-like.
  • Chill dough for 30 minutes if you want less spreading.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
