Ingredients
Scale
Cobbler Base
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Toppings
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter evenly into a 9×13-inch baking pan, ensuring the entire bottom is coated.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk, vanilla extract, and white sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix until just combined to avoid overworking the batter.
- Layer Batter: Spoon the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking pan without stirring to maintain distinct layers.
- Add Brown Sugar: Sprinkle the packed brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter layer to create a sweet crust.
- Pour Hot Water: Carefully and gently pour the hot water over the brown sugar and batter layers. Do not stir; the layers will create a lovely cobbler effect as it bakes.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and mostly set.
- Finish with Topping: While the cobbler is baking, mix the white sugar and cinnamon together. Once the cobbler is out of the oven and still hot, sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top for added flavor and crunch.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving warm. Enjoy this comforting dessert as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use half-and-half or cream instead of whole milk.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
- Make sure not to stir after adding the hot water to maintain the cobbler’s distinct layers.
- Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
