Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Crust & Topping
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook Beef and Onion: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion together until the beef is browned and the onion is tender, about 7–8 minutes. Drain any excess grease to keep the dish from being too oily.
- Mix Sloppy Joe Sauce: Stir in the sloppy joe sauce with the cooked beef and onion, then simmer for 2–3 minutes to meld the flavors. Remove from heat once done.
- Prepare Crescent Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking dish, sealing any seams to form a crust base.
- Assemble Bake: Pour the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the crescent dough crust, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top for a cheesy finish.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the crescent roll crust turns golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately brush the top with melted butter, then sprinkle with sesame seeds if using. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into 6 servings and serving warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat to make this dish lighter or vegetarian.
- Add diced bell peppers or jalapeños into the beef mixture for an extra flavor and slight heat.
- Serve alongside a fresh side salad or pickles for a balanced and complete meal.
