Ingredients
Scale
Salmon and Seasoning
- 2 fresh salmon fillets
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Bread and Cheese
- 4 slices of bread
- Butter (for spreading on bread)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Additional Toppings
- 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
Instructions
- Season the salmon: Season the salmon fillets with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to enhance the flavor of the fish.
- Cook the salmon: Heat a skillet over medium heat, then cook the salmon fillets until they are flaky and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness.
- Prepare the bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread to ensure a golden, crispy exterior.
- Start the sandwich: Place a slice of bread, buttered side down, onto the skillet over medium heat to begin toasting.
- Add toppings: Layer shredded cheddar cheese evenly on the bread slice in the skillet, then add the cooked salmon fillet, sliced red onion, and chopped fresh dill on top of the cheese.
- Top and cook: Place another slice of bread on top, buttered side up, to complete the sandwich.
- Grill first side: Cook the sandwich until the bottom bread slice is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Flip and finish: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until it is also golden brown and the cheese is fully melted, an additional 3-4 minutes.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh salmon fillets to avoid any fishy taste.
- You can substitute cheddar with other melting cheeses like Gruyère or mozzarella if desired.
- Thinly slicing the red onion ensures it warms up and softens during cooking.
- Use a nonstick skillet or a well-seasoned pan to avoid sticking.
- Serve with a side salad or pickles for a complete meal.
