Description
Russian Buttercream is a smooth, creamy frosting made primarily with just two ingredients: butter and sweetened condensed milk. It’s perfect for cakes and cupcakes, offering a rich, buttery flavor with a silky texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 can (14 oz or 396g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on high speed for about 5 minutes, until it becomes pale and fluffy.
- Gradually add the sweetened condensed milk in small amounts, beating well after each addition to prevent curdling.
- Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, if using, and mix until well combined.
- Continue beating until the buttercream is smooth and silky.
- Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in the fridge and re-whip before use.
Notes
- Make sure the butter is at room temperature for a smooth consistency.
- If the buttercream appears too soft, chill it slightly and re-whip.
- Flavorings like cocoa powder or fruit puree can be added for variations.
