Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the Garlic Rosemary Butter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let this mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil, stirring until a dough starts to form.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic, which helps develop gluten for a good structure.
- First Rise: Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to preheat to 375°F (190°C) as the dough completes its rise.
- Make Garlic Rosemary Butter: In a separate bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, minced garlic, chopped fresh rosemary, and salt. Mix well.
- Shape Dough Pieces: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide it into small pieces, then dip each piece into the garlic rosemary butter and arrange them neatly in a greased bundt pan.
- Second Rise: Pour any remaining garlic rosemary butter evenly over the arranged dough pieces. Cover and let them rise again for 30 minutes to achieve a light and airy texture.
- Bake Bread: Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly in the pan before serving, so it’s easier to pull apart and enjoy.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
- Fresh rosemary can be substituted with dried rosemary, but reduce the amount to 1 tablespoon as it is more concentrated.
- You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes in the garlic butter for a spicy kick.
- If you don’t have a bundt pan, a deep round cake pan or oven-safe skillet can be used instead.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with vegan butter or olive oil.
