Description

Festive, no-bake layered Rice Krispies treats dyed red, white, and blue—perfect for patriotic celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows, divided equally into 3 bowls
  • 5 ¼ cups crispy rice cereal, divided equally (≈1 ¾ cups each)
  • ½ tsp red gel food coloring
  • ½ tsp blue gel food coloring
  • ¼ cup mixed red, white, and blue sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×9‑inch dish with foil (2‑inch overhang) and spray lightly.
  2. In three microwave‑safe bowls, combine 1 Tbsp butter + ~3⅓ oz marshmallows each. Microwave ~60 sec until puffed.
  3. Add blue gel to one bowl, red gel to another; leave the third uncolored.
  4. Stir ~1 ¾ cups cereal into each bowl, mixing until coated.
  5. Layer the mixtures in dish: blue first, then white, then red, pressing each firmly (use sprayed hands).
  6. Immediately sprinkle the top with patriotic sprinkles, pressing gently.
  7. Let set at room temperature ~30 minutes, then lift out using foil. Cut into 16 squares.
  8. Store airtight at room temperature up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Gel food coloring gives more vibrant colors; regular works too.
  • Use spray‑lubricated hands to press layers without sticking.
  • Cut after cooling to keep squares neat.
  • Store at room temperature; for longer life use airtight container.
