Festive, no-bake layered Rice Krispies treats dyed red, white, and blue—perfect for patriotic celebrations.
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, divided
- 10 oz mini marshmallows, divided equally into 3 bowls
- 5 ¼ cups crispy rice cereal, divided equally (≈1 ¾ cups each)
- ½ tsp red gel food coloring
- ½ tsp blue gel food coloring
- ¼ cup mixed red, white, and blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Line a 9×9‑inch dish with foil (2‑inch overhang) and spray lightly.
- In three microwave‑safe bowls, combine 1 Tbsp butter + ~3⅓ oz marshmallows each. Microwave ~60 sec until puffed.
- Add blue gel to one bowl, red gel to another; leave the third uncolored.
- Stir ~1 ¾ cups cereal into each bowl, mixing until coated.
- Layer the mixtures in dish: blue first, then white, then red, pressing each firmly (use sprayed hands).
- Immediately sprinkle the top with patriotic sprinkles, pressing gently.
- Let set at room temperature ~30 minutes, then lift out using foil. Cut into 16 squares.
- Store airtight at room temperature up to 3 days.
Notes
- Gel food coloring gives more vibrant colors; regular works too.
- Use spray‑lubricated hands to press layers without sticking.
- Cut after cooling to keep squares neat.
