Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
Cheese and Toppings
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup mini pepperoni or chopped regular pepperoni
- 1/2 cup finely chopped bell pepper or mushrooms (optional)
For Serving
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (for dipping)
- Nonstick cooking spray (for greasing pan)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a mini muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt until fully combined.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the whole milk and large egg to the dry mixture, mixing just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
- Fold in Cheese and Toppings: Gently fold in shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, pepperoni, and any optional finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
- Rest Batter: Let the batter rest for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the baking powder to activate slightly.
- Fill Muffin Cups: Spoon the batter into the mini muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full for perfect puffing during baking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the pizza puffs turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the puffs to cool slightly before carefully removing them from the pan. Serve warm with pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
- These pizza puffs are ideal for parties, lunchboxes, or game day snacks.
- You can customize the filling by swapping pepperoni with cooked sausage, ham, or making them vegetarian by omitting meats.
- Store any leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the oven or air fryer to keep them crispy.
