Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry Shells
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 1 cup cooked roast beef, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/4 cup caramelized onions
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Finishing
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Shape the Puff Pastry Shells: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 9 equal squares. Place each square into a greased muffin tin, gently pressing down to form small tart shells that will hold the filling.
- Prepare the Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped cooked roast beef, shredded Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, Dijon mustard, fresh thyme leaves, and season with salt and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Fill the Tart Shells: Spoon the prepared filling evenly into each of the puff pastry shells, distributing the flavorful mixture across all 9 tarts.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the exposed edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg. This will give the tarts a shiny golden finish when baked.
- Bake the Tarts: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Garnish: Remove the tarts from the oven and let them cool slightly. Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and fresh flavor before serving.
- Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature as delightful appetizers or snacks.
Notes
- These tarts can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven before serving.
- If Gruyère cheese is not available, substitute with Swiss cheese or white cheddar for a similar flavor.
- Perfect as appetizers, brunch items, or party snacks.
- Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling to avoid cracking.
- Use fresh thyme leaves for the best aromatic flavor.
