Description

Margarita Shrimp Marinade is a zesty, citrus-infused marinade inspired by the classic margarita cocktail. Fresh lime and orange juices, tequila, honey, garlic, and cilantro combine to create flavorful, juicy shrimp perfect for grilling, broiling, or sautéing.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon lime zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons tequila
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or agave nectar)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together lime juice, lime zest, orange juice, orange zest, tequila, honey, minced garlic, cilantro, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the shrimp to a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the shrimp.
  3. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes. Do not marinate longer than 30 minutes to avoid a mushy texture.
  4. Remove shrimp from the marinade and discard the used marinade.
  5. Thread shrimp onto skewers if grilling.
  6. Grill, broil, or sauté shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are pink and opaque.
  7. Serve immediately with extra lime wedges if desired.

Notes

  • Do not marinate shrimp longer than 30 minutes as the acid can make them mushy.
  • Try adding a splash of triple sec for extra margarita flavor.
  • Use agave nectar instead of honey for a different sweetness.
  • Add chili powder or cayenne for a spicy kick.
  • Leftover cooked shrimp can be stored for up to 2 days.
