Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
For the Gravy
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Patties: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then divide and shape into 4 equal-sized patties. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 3–4 minutes per side or until browned and cooked through. Remove patties from the skillet and keep warm.
- Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter over medium heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until the mixture turns golden brown. Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce, then season with salt and pepper. Let the gravy simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
- Cook the Eggs: In a separate pan, melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter over medium heat. Fry the eggs sunny-side up or cook to your preferred doneness.
- Assemble the Dish: Spoon the cooked white rice onto serving plates. Place a cooked beef patty over the rice, then generously ladle warm gravy over the patty. Top each serving with a fried egg and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use jasmine or short-grain rice for the most authentic texture and flavor.
- For added depth, sauté onions or mushrooms and incorporate them into the gravy.
- Serve loco moco hot and fresh to enjoy the full comfort food experience.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with a plant-based oil or margarine.
