Description
A comforting one-pan meal featuring seasoned ground beef, crispy bacon, thinly sliced potatoes, and cheddar cheese baked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef (96/4)
- 20 mini red and gold potatoes, thinly sliced (about 500g)
- 4 slices center-cut bacon, cut into strips
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups skim milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp dry mustard
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a 12-inch oven-safe skillet, cook bacon over medium-high heat until crisp. Transfer to paper towels and crumble.
- Drain all but 1 tbsp bacon fat. Add ground beef and season with dry mustard, paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until browned.
- Push beef to one side and layer half the potato slices on the bottom. Spread beef over them and top with remaining potato slices.
- Pour milk evenly over the skillet and sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 40–50 minutes, until cheese is bubbly, edges are browned, and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Let cool for a few minutes. Top with crumbled bacon and green onions before serving.
Notes
- Thinly slice potatoes for even cooking.
- Use skim milk to keep the dish lighter.
- Drain excess grease to avoid a greasy texture.
- Bake covered with foil if using a smaller skillet or to prevent over-browning.
