Description

A quick and easy way to prepare canned black beans, perfect as a side dish or base for various recipes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Open the can of black beans and pour them into a strainer. Rinse under cold water to remove excess sodium and liquid.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until soft and translucent.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the rinsed black beans, cumin, and chili powder if using.
  6. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beans are heated through and flavors are combined.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and lime juice if desired.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • Rinsing the beans helps reduce sodium content and improves flavor.
  • For a creamier texture, mash some of the beans while cooking.
  • Can be served as a side dish, taco filling, or over rice.
