Description
A comforting and filling casserole featuring layers of ground beef, noodles, and a rich tomato and cheese sauce, perfect for a family dinner or potluck.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz egg noodles
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, cook until softened.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix sour cream, cottage cheese, and green onions.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked noodles, half of the cheese mixture, and half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
- Feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.
