Description

A comforting and filling casserole featuring layers of ground beef, noodles, and a rich tomato and cheese sauce, perfect for a family dinner or potluck.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, cook until softened.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix sour cream, cottage cheese, and green onions.
  7. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked noodles, half of the cheese mixture, and half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.
  8. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
  10. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Feel free to use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.
