Description

Creamy, flavorful garlic Parmesan rice—a simple and delicious side dish that pairs well with chicken, seafood, or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (or jasmine)
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley, extra Parmesan

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter or warm oil.
  2. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown.
  3. Add rice and stir to coat with garlic and oil, cooking 1–2 minutes.
  4. Pour in broth, bring mixture to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  6. Remove from heat and let rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
  7. Stir in Parmesan cheese and cream (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with parsley and extra cheese before serving.
  9. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 4 days; reheat with a splash of broth or milk.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; garlic powder is a fallback.
  • Substitute vegan Parmesan and plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or peas for extra vegetables.
  • For nuttier flavor, toast rice before adding broth.
  • Garnish with lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness.
