Ingredients
- 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup long-grain white rice (or jasmine)
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk (optional, for creaminess)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional garnish: chopped parsley, extra Parmesan
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter or warm oil.
- Add garlic and sauté 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown.
- Add rice and stir to coat with garlic and oil, cooking 1–2 minutes.
- Pour in broth, bring mixture to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese and cream (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with parsley and extra cheese before serving.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 4 days; reheat with a splash of broth or milk.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; garlic powder is a fallback.
- Substitute vegan Parmesan and plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
- Add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or peas for extra vegetables.
- For nuttier flavor, toast rice before adding broth.
- Garnish with lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness.
