A hearty and comforting Balkan dish made with layers of potatoes and ground meat, baked to perfection with a creamy egg topping. This easy Serbian Moussaka is simple to make and packed with flavor.

- 500g ground beef or pork
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3 eggs
- 200ml milk
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
- In a pan, heat oil and sauté the chopped onions until translucent.
- Add the ground meat to the pan, season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook until the meat is browned.
- Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
- Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over the potato layer.
- Top with the remaining sliced potatoes to cover the meat.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs and milk, then pour the mixture evenly over the potatoes.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use a mandoline slicer for evenly thin potato slices.
- Can substitute ground meat with ground turkey for a leaner version.
- Serve with a simple salad or yogurt on the side.
