Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 large sheet of refrigerated pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Taco Topping:

  • 1/2 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix

For the Cheese and Veggie Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapenos (optional)

For Garnishes:

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup salsa or pico de gallo

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare crust: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Roll out the pizza dough onto a large sheet pan lined with parchment paper, stretching it evenly to fit the pan. Drizzle olive oil over the dough and use a brush or your fingers to coat it evenly. Bake the crust for about 8-10 minutes until it begins to crisp and take on a golden color.
  2. Cook seasoned meat: While the crust bakes, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef or turkey and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in the taco seasoning packet along with a splash of water. Simmer the mixture until thickened and well combined.
  3. Assemble pizza: Remove the partially baked crust from the oven. Immediately spread the seasoned meat evenly over the surface of the crust. Sprinkle the shredded Mexican blend cheese and cheddar cheese evenly over the meat. Then add diced red onions, tomatoes, black olives, and jalapenos if you are using them.
  4. Bake until bubbly: Return the sheet pan to the oven and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  5. Add fresh toppings and serve: After baking, remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to cool for a couple of minutes. Top with shredded lettuce, fresh chopped cilantro, dollops of sour cream and guacamole, and spoon on your favorite salsa or pico de gallo. Slice into squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground meat with seasoned black beans or a plant-based meat alternative.
  • Customize the toppings with corn, avocado slices, or your preferred taco fixings for more variety.
  • Using a cast iron pan instead of a sheet pan can yield an even crispier crust.
  • To make it spicier, add sliced jalapenos or a drizzle of hot sauce.
