Description

Delight in these Cherry Cinnamon Rolls, a perfect blend of sweet cherry pie filling and classic cinnamon sugar swirls wrapped in a tender, fluffy dough. Ideal for breakfast or dessert, these rolls are topped with a luscious vanilla glaze that adds a creamy finish to every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • â…“ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy to ensure the yeast is properly activated.
  2. Make Dough: Add sugar, melted butter, egg, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Filling & Roll Dough: Roll out the dough into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; sprinkle over the dough. Spoon cherry pie filling evenly across the dough in a thin layer, avoiding excess liquid.
  5. Shape Rolls: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  7. Make Glaze: While rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Finish & Serve: Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls before serving for that perfect sweet finish.

Notes

  • Use fresh pitted cherries for a homemade cherry filling variation.
  • Store leftover rolls covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For longer freshness, refrigerate the rolls and warm slightly before serving.
