Description

This Buttery Cheesy Basa recipe features tender basa fish fillets pan-seared to golden perfection and smothered in a rich, creamy sauce made with garlic, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheeses. The combination of butter, olive oil, and fresh herbs adds depth and flavor, making it a comforting and indulgent seafood dish perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Fish

  • 4 basa fillets (about 4 oz each)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

Cooking Fats and Aromatics

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Garnish and Serving

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 lemon, sliced (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Season the Basa Fillets: Pat the basa fillets dry and season both sides evenly with salt, black pepper, and dried oregano to infuse flavor.
  2. Pan-Sear the Fish: In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat until the butter is melted and sizzling. Add the basa fillets and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and are cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Garlic: Using the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté over medium heat for about 1 minute until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
  4. Make the Creamy Cheese Sauce: Pour in the heavy cream while stirring, scraping up any browned bits from the pan to enhance the sauce flavor. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheeses until melted and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  5. Combine Fish and Sauce: Return the cooked basa fillets to the skillet, spooning the cheesy sauce over them. Continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes to warm the fish through and fully melt the cheese.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Garnish the dish with chopped fresh parsley and lemon slices. Serve immediately with your choice of sides such as rice, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Ensure the basa fillets are dry before seasoning to get a nice sear.
  • You can substitute basa with other white fish like cod or tilapia if preferred.
  • Adjust cheese quantities according to your taste preference for cheesiness.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the creamy sauce at its best consistency.
  • This dish pairs well with light sides to balance its richness, such as steamed greens or quinoa.
