Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it reaches the proper temperature for quick baking of the biscuits.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until evenly combined.
- Add Buttermilk: Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the biscuits tender.
- Melt Butter in Baking Dish: Place the 9×9-inch baking dish into the oven for a few minutes to melt the butter in it. Then carefully remove the hot dish with the melted butter pooled inside.
- Assemble Biscuits: Pour the biscuit dough directly into the baking dish over the melted butter and gently spread it out evenly with a spatula or knife.
- Score Dough: Use a knife to cut the unbaked dough into 9 equal squares. This step helps the biscuits separate easily after baking.
- Bake: Bake the biscuits for 20–25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the butter is bubbling around the edges, indicating they are fully cooked and flavorful.
- Cool Slightly and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool slightly before serving warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sprinkle garlic powder or shredded cheese on top of the dough before baking.
- These biscuits are best served warm and pair perfectly with jam, honey, or gravy.
