Description

This Burger Bowls recipe offers a flavorful and nutritious alternative to traditional burgers by combining crispy seasoned potatoes, spiced ground beef, fresh lettuce, cheese, pickles, and a tangy homemade burger sauce. Perfect for a family meal, these bowls are easy to prepare and bring all the classic burger flavors without the bun.

Ingredients

Scale

Spice Mix

  • 1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Potatoes

  • 2-3 medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for potatoes)

Beef Mixture

  • 500 grams lean beef mince/ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)
  • Half of the prepared spice mix reserved for beef

Bowl Assembly

  • Lettuce (shredded)
  • Cheese (dairy-free or regular, as preferred)
  • Pickle slices

Burger Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice (from the jar of pickles)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spice mix: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Prep potatoes: Wash and cut the potatoes into chip-sized pieces. Pat them dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring they crisp up during cooking.
  3. Season and cook potatoes: Place the cut potatoes in a large mixing bowl, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the prepared spice mix. Toss thoroughly to coat them evenly. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30 to 40 minutes until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through. Alternatively, air fry the potatoes for about 20 minutes until crispy.
  4. Cook the beef: While the potatoes are cooking, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Once browned, sprinkle in the remaining half of the spice mix. Continue cooking until the beef darkens and any excess moisture evaporates, resulting in well-cooked, flavorful mince.
  5. Make the burger sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed to achieve the desired flavor balance.
  6. Assemble the bowls: Divide the cooked crispy potatoes among serving bowls. Fill the remaining space in each bowl with shredded lettuce. Top with the cooked beef, cheese slices or shreds, and pickle slices. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce over the top and serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • You can swap regular potatoes for sweet potatoes for a different flavor and extra nutrients.
  • Using dairy-free cheese makes this recipe suitable for those with lactose intolerance or following a dairy-free diet.
  • Adjust seasoning in the burger sauce to taste, adding a bit more pickle juice or mustard for extra tang if desired.
  • For crispier potatoes, ensure they are cut evenly and patted dry before seasoning.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days but are best enjoyed fresh.
