Description

Black Forest Trifle is a festive dessert that combines rich chocolate cake, sweetened cherries, and creamy whipped cream. Perfect for Christmas, this indulgent treat is both visually appealing and delicious.

Ingredients

  • Chocolate cake (pre-baked or store-bought)
  • Heavy cream
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cherry pie filling
  • Maraschino cherries (for garnish)
  • Dark chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  2. Cut the chocolate cake into cubes, and layer them at the bottom of a trifle dish or individual glasses.
  3. Spoon a generous amount of cherry pie filling over the cake layer, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
  4. Add a layer of whipped cream over the cherries, spreading it evenly.
  5. Repeat the layers (cake, cherries, whipped cream) until the trifle dish is filled.
  6. Finish with a top layer of whipped cream, then garnish with maraschino cherries and chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh cherries if in season for a more natural flavor.
  • Add a splash of Kirsch (cherry liqueur) to the whipped cream or cake layers for an extra touch of flavor.
  • Swap the chocolate cake for brownies for a richer texture.
  • Add a layer of chocolate ganache between the cake and cherries for extra decadence.
