Description

Bang Bang Shrimp is a crispy, spicy, and creamy appetizer made with lightly battered shrimp tossed in a signature sweet and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • Lettuce leaves for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the shrimp and buttermilk. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, add cornstarch. Dredge the marinated shrimp in the cornstarch, coating evenly.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the shrimp in batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, rice vinegar, and garlic powder to make the Bang Bang sauce.
  6. Toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until fully coated.
  7. Serve on a bed of lettuce leaves and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • Adjust Sriracha for desired spice level.
  • Can be served as an appetizer or over rice for a main dish.
  • For a healthier version, bake or air fry the shrimp instead of deep-frying.
