Description

Bang Bang Chicken is a crispy, juicy fried chicken dish tossed in a creamy, sweet, and spicy sauce. This crowd-pleasing recipe is perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or quick dinner served over rice, noodles, or in lettuce wraps.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp sriracha or hot sauce (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 green onions, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk. In another bowl, combine the flour and cornstarch.
  3. Dip each chicken piece into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour-cornstarch mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey to make the bang bang sauce.
  6. Toss the hot fried chicken pieces in the sauce until fully coated.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Swap chicken for shrimp for a seafood version.
  • Bake instead of frying for a lighter option: bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes.
  • Adjust sriracha to your desired spice level.
  • Serve in lettuce wraps for a low-carb meal.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven or air fryer to keep them crispy.
